Inspiring Fluency Through Mathematical Curiosity

Join us and embark on a journey of…

Work with renowned mathematics educators like Sunil Singh, Caty Morris, Katherine Roan, Nadia Abdelal, Michaela Epstein, Alex Box, Lana Fleiszig and Antje Leigh-Lancaster as they guide you through enriching keynotes, interactive workshops, and reflective discussions aimed at equiping you with practical skills in teaching Foundation to Year 10 maths.

What you can expect

  • Specialised Focus: Designed exclusively for Foundation to Year 10 teachers, this symposium addresses the unique challenges and opportunities of this critical educational phase.

  • Bridging the Gap: Our aim is to seamlessly connect primary and secondary maths education, ensuring a fluid and comprehensive learning journey for students.

  • Unified Learning: Delegates attend sessions collectively, fostering collaboration and shared insights.

  • Hands-On Experience: Expect interactive sessions where you're not just a passive attendee but an active participant.

  • Expert Facilitation: Learn directly from renowned maths education gurus, respected and recognised for their contributions to the field.

What Sets us Apart?

Our one-day event is a unique convergence of Foundation to Year 10 mathematics educators, dedicated at fostering holistic, inclusive, and engaging learning experiences. Underscored by research-driven practices, this gathering is not about prescribing teaching methods but fostering exploration and innovation in maths education. On the day, you will engage with expert-led keynotes and hands-on workshops as you tackle 'Mathematical Conundrums', that encourage collaboration and creative problem-solving. You will benefit from a dynamic exchange of ideas, and leave with new lesson plans and a renewed passion for teaching. It's a day to transform your approach to maths, and inspire you to explore the beauty and complexity of mathematics with fresh eyes.

Our workshops

  • Explore hands-on workshops designed to engage and challenge. Each workshop will focus on a rich ‘Mathematical Conundrum’ that can be tailored for Foundation to Year 10 students.

  • Each unique workshop delves into a specific rich problem-solving activity, offering strategies for differentiation and classroom implementation.

  • Choose two from five dynamic workshops to attend, each capped at 35 participants, ensuring an intimate and interactive experience. Each session will be led and facilitated by one of the leading maths specialists on the team, including the keynote speakers.

  • Engage directly in solving and differentiating rich maths problems, with facilitator support to adapt strategies across year levels.

  • Leave each session with comprehensive lesson plans, equipping you to bring innovative problem-solving directly into your classroom.

  • Come prepared to collaborate, share, and engage deeply with each problem-solving activity for maximum benefit.

  • Enjoy ample opportunity to consult with the expert facilitators and peers, fostering a supportive network for teaching excellence.

Takeaways for Your Teaching

Not only will you leave with a fresh perspective on problem-solving and mathematical modelling, but you'll also walk away with a practical array of maths essentials for your teacher toolkit:

  • A resource pack full of session materials, including fully-prepared lesson plans for each 'Mathematical Conundrum' and solutions ready for immediate classroom application.

  • Membership in an online community of educators, fostering shared learning and continuous professional growth.

  • Expert advice on how to effectively present and engage students with mathematical problems, transforming each lesson into an adventure.

  • Strategies to tailor problems for diverse learning needs and link them directly to curriculum objectives, ensuring lessons are inclusive and relevant.

Session Breakdown

Each breakout session will introduced you to a 'Mathematical Conundrum,' a problem that looks simple but unfolds into a rich tapestry of exploration and discovery. Facilitated by seasoned experts, these problems are your gateway to seeing mathematics through a new lens.

  • Unpack the Problem (30 mins): Work in groups to unravel the conundrum, encouraging a free exchange of ideas and strategies.

  • Showcase your solution (3-5 mins per group): Each group presents their unique approach, exchanging ideas and highlighting the diversity of mathematical thought.

  • Links to Curriculum (15 mins): Discover how to differentiate your problem and adapt it to different year levels, making your lessons more inclusive and engaging.
